Have you ever wondered how the fabric in your Very Vineyard piece of clothing is made? When we show you the process I think you will appreciate the beauty of our prints even more. All our fabrics are hand printed using the traditional wax resist process of Batik.
Batik is the ancient art of applying wax as a resist to hand dyed colors in order to create beautiful textiles. Batik is common throughout the world, but Indonesia is especially well known for its beautiful designs and colorations. The work Batik (pronounced ‘Bah-Teak’) is originally an Indonesian- Malay word meaning “to dot”. Batik textile production has spread throughout the Hindu and Malay world, but the heart pf production remains in the Indonesian islands of Java and Bali. Using traditional methods, the artisans here have taken production to its highest degree of excellence.
Batik Fabric uses a wax resist process, here the batik maker is applying the wax using a copper batik stamp.
These are the Indonesian Copper Tjaps – or Batik Stamps that are used to create to pattern on the fabrics.
All of Very Vineyard’s Batik prints are hand printed and dyed in 10 meter pieces. It is a slow and complicated process involving many steps.
All the fabric is dyed many times to add the varied colors that make our prints so beautiful. All the dyes rely on the sun to set the colors. Here the fabrics hang to dry outside. The colors are even more beautiful outside in the sunlight.
The final product arrives in our factory to be inspected and made into Very Vineyard Dresses and outfits. Aren’t we lucky to be able to wear this artwork?
